Loading A Shell

Kathleen's father, Bob Lindquist, is shown loading a three-inch shell aboard LST 68 in the South Pacific during World War II.  The photo was taken by a Life Magazine photographer.  Lindquist's main job was to operate the landing craft that brought the troops ashore during the island invasions.

New Hair Cuts

On July 21, 1951, a group of soldiers in the 196th Regimental Combat Team, had their heads shaved to state, "Alaska 196 RCT".  The 12 GIs were en route to Elmenforg Air Force Base in Alaska to guard the base during the Korean War.  The picture was submitted by Arthur Spronk from Edgerton Post 42.

USO Show

A tap dancer struts her stuff at a USO show at Kunson, Korea, in the spring of 1954.  Kolke, who was a corporal in the Army, writes, "The shows sure were a nice break in the monotony.  The picture submitted by Earl R. Kolke, Cambridge Post 290
