Disabled Veterans Turkey Hunt
Camp Ripley, Minnesota
The American Legion would like to acknowledge and thank MNDVA for supplying the funding for the adverting of our Veterans Outdoors Programs and promotional wraps on the related vehicles
The Disabled Veterans Turkey Hunt is a program available to Minnesota Disabled Veterans who are armed forces Veterans. Eligible Veterans are encouraged to apply for this special hunt. All participants in this program are accompanied by an able-bodied (non-hunting) partner.
This phenomenal program is held annually at Camp Ripley in Little Falls, MN and is intended to serve as an opportunity for Veterans to safely get back out into the outdoors, to see wildlife, and to be provided the chance to harvest a turkey. What makes this program possible are the financial support and contributions performed by volunteers from a wide collection of organizations; including, the National Turkey Federation of Minnesota, St. Cloud VA Healthcare System, Midwest Outdoors Unlimited, Patriot Guard, Rice Area Sportsmen Club, and others. Without these organizations we wouldn't be able to sustain these programs as long as we have.
Permits and licenses issued for this special hunt allow participants to take one bearded turkey, only during the special hunt and only at Camp Ripley. Hunters are allowed to use only legal shotguns and muzzle loading shotguns for taking turkeys, as defined in the Minnesota Hunting Regulations Handbook. Interested hunters don't apply through the regular spring turkey hunt lottery. Instead, interested Veterans apply directly to one of the sponsoring organizations listed below; and which primarily include: The VFW, DAV & the American Legion of Minnesota.
If you know of a Veteran who is disabled and would like to get back into the field to Turkey and or Deer Hunt please contact your Minnesota Veteran Service Organization State HQ Office (VFW, DAV, and/or The American Legion). Those interested in Volunteering are also encouraged to make contact with our offices for further information.
