MACV StandDown The MACV StandDown in the Twin Cities will be held at a new location this year. The StandDown will be held Aug. 2-3 at the Boy Scout Base Camp at 201
Bloomington Road, Fort Snelling. It's one-third of a mile from the Fort Snelling light rail station. Services are available for all veterans including meals, clothing, VA benefits, legal
assistance, haircuts, housing, employment, and much more. Gates are open from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. both days. Veterans should bring their DD214 for faster service.

Discount The Disabled Veterans Rest Camp in Washington County is offering all veterans who have returned from an activation or deployment in the last year a discount on camping and cabin fees. For

Guthrie offers Discount The Guthrie Theater has announced that military members (current and past) and family members are

Leech Lake Ride The American Legion Riders Chapter 134 will hold a Leech Lake Ride for Vets on Aug. 27. Proceeds will go toward the "Wounded Warriors Project."
Registration will be from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. at the Walker City Park, rain or shine. The cost is $20 per bike and $15 per passenger. Lunch is included. For more information, go to

Flag Etiquette Brochures Secretary of State Mark Ritchie has announced that his office has
restocked "Guide to Flag Etiquette." The brochures are available at the SOS office, 180 State Office Building, at the Capitol. Those interested can also email the office at

St. Michael Open House St. Michael Post 567 will have an open house from 1-5 p.m. on Saturday,
July 9. At 2 p.m. there will be a dedication at the post home. Legion Family and the public are invited to attend.
Disabled Vets Deer Hunt The St. Cloud VA, the DNR and the Minnesota
National Guard will host the 20th annual Physically Disabled Veterans Deer Hunt at Camp Ripley near Little Falls. The hunt is for those receiving outpatient treatment from the VA or who are eligible

Legion Day at Gophers The 2011 American
Legion Family Day with the Minnesota Gophers has been set for Sept. 17. The game will be against the University of Miami (Ohio) and the game time has not yet been announced. The price for tickets

seminar at the annual Department Convention being held in Mahnomen from July 14-16. The seminar will be held July 14, Thursday, at the Mahnomen High School at 2 p.m.
Evening with Eagles The
Wings of the North will be presenting its annual "Evening with the Eagles" dinner and symposium on Saturday, July 16, featuring historic figures in aviation. This year's lineup includes Jim Hill of
the Black Sheep Squadron, Joe Gomer of the Tuskegee Airmen, Boots Blesse, a double ace from the Korean War, Jean London, WASP, Don Cherry, Thunderbirds, and Dave Wheat, Vietnam POW. Tickets are

Gold Star Weekend Forest Lake Post 225 and others will sponsor a weekend of camaraderie, fun and sharing on Aug. 19-21. Friday will be food and music at Forest
Lake, Saturday will be a barbeque and bonfire and salute to fallen heroes at the Veterans Rest Camp on Big Marine, and Sunday will feature a service and camp activities. For more information about

Air Guard event The Minnesota Air Guard Museum will have an event July 14-16 to commemorate the 90th anniversary of the organization of the 109th
Observation Squadron, the first federally recognized National Guard flying squadron. The event will kick off on Thursday, July 14, at 1 p.m. when vintage planes from around the state will fly to

Civil War Exhibit The Minnesota Military Museum at Camp Ripley will be opening its new exhibit, "Minnesota's Two Civil Wars" on July 11. The exhibit will
illuminate both the American Civil War, where Minnesota sent over 22,000 troops including the legendary Minnesota First Volunteer Regiment, and the 1862 Dakota War which in some ways was bloodier for
Minnesotans than the Civil War. Opening ceremony will be at 11 a.m. and the day will feature period music, living history reenactments, weapons demonstrations, and picnic lunches will be
available.
