Bloomington will host this year's state convention

For the second year in a row, Bloomington will host the Minnesota American Legion annual convention.
The convention will be held on July 17-19 at the Bloomington Sheraton Hotel. It will be the 90th annual convention for The American Legion, and the 89th annual meeting for the Auxiliary.
The convention will include the annual business of the convention, including the election of state officers. Tom Conway of Argyle is the only candidate at this time for the post of Department Commander.
The Bloomington Post 550 is hosting the event, and will provide shuttles between the Sheraton and the post daily.
The post home at 301 West 84th Street has been sold, and is now the Evert McClay VFW, but the Legion and the VFW are working together to operate a veterans club.
There will be special lunches on both Thursday and Friday of the convention at the post. The bar will be open until midnight.
The parade route will be different this year. The parade will go around the Sheraton Hotel.
It will start at the Western National Insurance Building, go down 78th Street and around the Sofitel Hotel, and then end at the Sheraton building.
The parade will begin at 7 p.m. on Friday evening.
Conference registration and hotel materials are on page 15 of this issue. The call for meeting and the convention rules are on page 6.
Gov. Tim Pawlenty has been invited to speak at the convention.
