Veterans will have a chance to look at a very rare copy of the Declaration of Independence -- and free run of the Minnesota History Center on Monday, May 12. "Defenders of Democracy Day" is being
sponsored by the Minnesota American Legion and the Baker, Wadd and Williams law firm. The history center, which is normally closed on Mondays, will be open from 9 a.m. until 5 p.m. for veterans and
current service members, their spouses and their children. There will be limited parking. The original printing of the Declaration, known as the "Dunlap Broadside," is valued at over $8 million. Only
25 of these broadsides, created by Congress to be sent to the colonies, are known to exist. Other documents on display at the history center will include material from Minnesota's celebration of its
150th birthday this year. The American Legion and other service organizations will have representatives at an information center that day. Baker, Wadd and Williams specializes in law related to
veterans and the military. "The Declaration established this nation and our principles," said John Baker of the law firm. "To the Minnesota men and women who contributed to the defense of our
independence, we offer our heartfelt and humble gratitude with this opportunity." For information, call 866-259-9163.
