Myron Wieland, commander and deputy chief of the New Ulm Police Department, has been selected as the Minnesota American Legion 2008 Law Officer of the Year. Wieland is a 21-year member of the New Ulm
Police Department, starting out as a patrol officer and rising to his present rank. He was nominated for the award by New Ulm Post 132. Wieland received his BS in law enforcement from Mankato State
in 1986 and joined the New Ulm force the following year. He is active in his community as a member of the Sons of the American Legion, United Way, Lions Club and many other volunteer activities. He
has three times been named New Ulm employee of the month. Wieland will be honored by the Legion at the annual state convention held at Bloomington in July.
