Department of Minnesota

American Legion Night at CHS Field
Overview
Details

Join the Minnesota American Legion Family on May 22 at CHS Field as we launch Memorial Day weekend with a heartwarming celebration of baseball and honor! Watch as Commander Linda Dvorak takes to the mound for the first pitch, and experience the stirring presentation of the colors by the New Prague Veterans Honor Guard during the "Star-Spangled Banner."

Invite Minnesota American Legion Baseball and Softball teams to enjoy the game from the stands. Invite your Oratorical Contest contestants, your Legionville campers, your Boys/Girls staters and all of their families to come along. Let's have a fantastic atmosphere filled with camaraderie and great views of the action. Let’s cheer on the Saints together and make this an unforgettable day of remembrance and fun!

Be there for all the action. We will have a link for purchasing tickets when the Saints make them available. Commander Linda Dvorak will toss out the first pitch, and the Department Color Guard will present the colors for the national anthem.

History

The relationship between The American Legion and Major League Baseball goes back to the 1920s. After the birth of Legion Baseball in 1926, funding for a second season looked bleak and no season was held. Major League Baseball Commissioner Kenesaw Mountain Landis stepped in and pledged an annual donation of $50,000, and the program resumed in 1928. Winners of the American Legion World Series attended the MLB World Series. To this day, the winners still attend the World Series, and MLB provides an annual donation to help fund the National American Legion Baseball Tournament of 64 teams from across the country.

Let’s show our support for America’s pastime by attending this game. No other youth baseball program has so many of its members in the Baseball Hall of Fame. Read about them here.
