From newsletters to texting, we want to hear your best use of keeping members informed.
American Legion post leaders use a variety of ways to communicate with members, including newsletters, social media, and texting. During the Legion’s National Regional Information Conference Jan. 31 in Indianapolis, attendees shared a variety of texting and voicemail services they use, including WhatsApp, Signal, Slybroadcast, and EZ Texting. Legionnaires shared that they use these services to send text messages about post-meeting reminder date, time, and location; volunteer callouts; and to check on the needs of members, such as snow removal.
Bobbie Kimelton of American Legion Post 145 in Peoria, Ariz., previously shared that the post uses EZ Texting to send:
- Reminders to renew with a direct link to the post website.
- A thank you after members pay their dues/renew. This message also lets the member know how their dues will be used, such as to support post programs.
- A follow-up message after making Buddy Checks.
- The post’s events calendar, as well as photographs and videos of events that occurred.
- The agenda, day, and time for post membership meetings.
What communication tool does your post use, and in what ways does your post effectively use it? Please share by sending an email to crichardson@legion.org.
